Maoist Centre to study BRI agreement before commenting

Kathmandu, December 5 — The main opposition party, the Nepal Communist Party (Maoist Centre), has decided to formulate its stance on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) agreement, signed during Prime Minister KP Oli's visit to China, only after conducting a detailed study.
On Thursday morning, a meeting of the party's office-bearers, held at the residence of Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda) in Khumaltar, decided to adopt a policy of not rushing to form an opinion on the 'Framework for BRI Cooperation' agreement between Nepal and China.
The agreement was signed on Wednesday morning between Nepal and China.
Under the framework, both sides have agreed to proceed with 10 projects.
In this regard, party leaders sought the opinion of Chairman Prachanda. However, Deputy General Secretary Haribol Gajurel informed that there was no discussion on the BRI as they decided to respond only after further understanding the agreements between Nepal and China.
“There was no discussion about the BRI. Questions were raised during the meeting, but since the Chairman decided to respond only after further study and understanding, no further discussions took place,” Gajurel told Ratopati.
