Nepal and China issue 12-point joint statement during PM Oli's visit

Kathmandu, December 3 — During Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's visit to China, Nepal and China have issued a 12-point joint statement. On Tuesday, Prime Minister Oli held meetings with President Xi Jinping, Chinese counterpart Li Qiang, and others in Beijing.

During this visit, several agreements were signed between Nepal and China. The agreements were signed in the presence of Prime Minister Oli and Chinese counterpart Li Qiang.

The first point of the joint statement, issued after high-level discussions, highlights that the leaders of both countries have strengthened and deepened China-Nepal relations in a cordial and friendly environment. They also engaged in in-depth exchanges on mutual interests concerning international and regional issues and reached agreements on a wide range of topics.

The second point mentions that the exchange of high-level visits has contributed to strengthening the friendly bilateral relations between Nepal and China. In recent years, the close exchanges and practical cooperation between both countries at all levels have yielded fruitful results, benefiting the people of both nations.

As part of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Nepal in 2025, both sides had extensive discussions on how to make the anniversary significant. They reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations based on the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and the principles of good neighborliness and friendship.

In the third point, both sides reiterated their firm support for each other's major concerns and core interests. Nepal reaffirmed its strong commitment to the One China policy, stating that Taiwan is an inseparable part of China's territory. Nepal also reiterated that the Tibet issue is a matter of China's internal affairs and that no separatist activities against China will be allowed on Nepalese soil.

The Chinese side reaffirmed its commitment to the principles of friendship, honesty, mutual benefit, and inclusivity, and to maintaining friendly relations and partnerships in the neighborhood. China expressed firm support for Nepal's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence, and emphasized respect for Nepal's independent political and social system and development path suitable to its national conditions.
