Nepali Congress expresses gratitude for leading in by-elections
Kathmandu, December 3 — The ruling party coalition partner, Nepali Congress, has expressed gratitude to the people for making it the leading party in the local level by-elections.
Party General Secretary and Coordinator of the Local Level By-election Central Coordination Committee, Bishwprkash Sharma, issued a statement, stating that the party has viewed its performance in the initial review as a "satisfactory and encouraging indication," especially the seats won "individually" in the elections.
He mentioned that Nepali Congress candidates won 19 out of the 44 vacant seats and emphasized that "although fewer seats were won individually compared to the alliance in 2022, the wins this time are more significant in political, organizational, and qualitative terms."
Sharma also pointed to the loss of some of the seats won in 2022 and stated, "In democracy, expecting a win in every seat is not democratic thinking, but an objective review of the reasons and trends behind both wins and losses will be important for forming the next election strategy. We will do this."
In the statement, Sharma also indicated the presence of emotional and provocative politics in the by-election, particularly from Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and other forces. He claimed that the belief in winning hearts and votes through false and misleading information was a misconception that was generally defeated.
He further mentioned, "It is important for the party to stay alert and active, working to build trust through actions and dispelling the illusions on social media. The party honors the youth wing that played an active role on social media during this by-election."
