Local level by-election: Voting concludes peacefully
Kathmandu, December 1 — The by-election at the local level has been completed in a peaceful environment.
The Election Commission has reported that the by-election held for 41 positions on Sunday was conducted peacefully.
Nominations for the 44 vacant positions, including district coordination committee chiefs, municipal mayors, deputy mayors, ward chairpersons, and rural municipality chairpersons, vice-chairpersons, and ward chairpersons, were registered on October 18.
Out of these, three positions were elected unopposed, and therefore, the by-election was held only for 41 positions on Sunday.
According to the Election Commission, the district coordination committee chiefs of Okhaldhunga and Kailali were elected unopposed. Nepali Congress candidates Tek Raj Bhattarai and Tika Kumari Chaudhary (Bhul) were elected unopposed in these districts.
Similarly, in the Rukum Purba district, Jagat Gharti, a candidate from the Nepal Communist Party (Maoist Centre), was elected unopposed as the ward chairperson of Ward No. 2 of Putha Uttarganga Rural Municipality.
For the remaining 41 positions, voting concluded at 5 PM, and vote counting will begin tonight, according to the Election Commission.
