One arrested for threatening NRB officials in gangster Bishnoi's name
Kathmandu, November 29 — Harichandra Phuyal, who has been threatening Nepalese businessmen in the name of Indian gang leader Lawrence Bishnoi, has been arrested.
Phuyal, a resident of Charaali in Jhapa, is involved in the ghee trade and has been transporting ghee from Jhapa to Assam, India, for sale.
A 'connection' has been found between Phuyal and medical entrepreneur Durga Prasain.
According to SP Hobindra Bogati of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), there has been communication between Phuyal and Prasain. He mentioned, "It appears that Phuyal has been sending threatening voice recordings to Prasain from India."
Phuyal has also been found to have threatened senior officials of the Nepal Rastra Bank. Using two SIM cards from the Indian telecom company Airtel, he threatened Nepalese businessmen via WhatsApp.
Phuyal issued ultimatums ranging from 5 to 24 hours, threatening businessmen and bankers. He stated that if they did not support the campaign led by Durga Prasain, he would "finish them off."
Six bankers and businessmen have informed the CIB about these threats. The CIB's preliminary investigation found that 141 calls had been made from India.
The callers claimed, "I am from the Lawrence gang, and since Durga Prasain is fighting to protect Hinduism, you must provide financial support to him."
The callers also threatened to expose detailed information about the businessmen if they did not support Prasain, claiming to have such information.
