Rabi Lamichhane detained at District Police Range in Bhadrakali
Kathmandu, November 28 — Rabi Lamichhane, the president of the Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has been detained at the District Police Range in Bhadrakali, Kathmandu.
According to an officer at the District Police Range, Kathmandu, Lamichhane has been placed in the same detention area where former minister of Koshi Province, Lilaballav Adhikari, is held.
Lamichhane was brought from Pokhara to Kathmandu to provide a statement regarding the alleged embezzlement of funds from the Swarnalakshmi Multipurpose Cooperative in Kalimati.
The police have already taken a statement from former DIG Chhabilal Joshi regarding the embezzlement of the cooperative's funds. Kumar Ramtel, who is in custody at the Kaski prison, was also brought to Kathmandu for questioning. Ramtel, originally from Okhaldhunga, is the treasurer of the Swarnalakshmi Cooperative.
The president of the cooperative is GB Rai. In order to investigate the embezzlement, 645 depositors have filed complaints with the police.
According to the police's initial investigation, approximately 1.11 billion rupees have been embezzled from the cooperative. The cooperative's records show that 27,000 depositors had deposited a total of 2.65 billion 9.5 million rupees in the cooperative.
