KMC mayor Balen fines UML for pollution

Kathmandu, November 22 — The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has fined the Communist Party of Nepal (UML) 100,000 rupees.

Mayor Balen Shah imposed the fine after the UML held awareness assembly on an open road in Darbar Marg, during which the road and sidewalk were left littered, causing pollution.

A letter sent to the UML party office, signed by Kathmandu Metropolitan City's Municipal Police Inspector Lila Raj Gachha, stated: "On the occasion of holding the awareness assembly on the open road in Darbar Marg, Ward No. 1, Kathmandu, on November 22, 2024, you caused environmental pollution by carelessly leaving garbage on the road and sidewalk. Therefore, under the Solid Waste Management Act and the Kathmandu Metropolitan City Financial Act, a fine of 100,000 rupees has been imposed as per the instructions."
