Speaker rejects Janamat MP Sapkota's dismissal yet again
Kathmandu, November 22 — Janamat Party MP Goma Labh Sapkota has retained her parliamentary position.
Speaker Devraj Ghimire decided not to take action against Sapkota, who was elected as a proportional representation MP from the Janamat Party.
According to Federal Parliament Secretariat spokesperson Ekram Giri, the Speaker reviewed the letter sent by the Janamat Party and decided not to remove her from the position.
"The Speaker has made a decision," Giri said. "The processes under Subsections 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 of Section 32 and the procedures under Section 38 of the Political Parties Act do not appear to have been completed. Therefore, the Speaker decided that there is no need to issue a notice regarding the loss of her MP position."
Spokesperson Giri added that the Speaker's decision was based on the provisions of Sections 18, 32, and 38 of the Political Parties Act.
The Janamat Party had repeatedly submitted letters to the Secretariat, requesting Sapkota’s dismissal on disciplinary grounds and notifying that she had been removed from her MP position.
Party Chair CK Raut even visited the Parliament Secretariat to hold discussions with the Speaker, alleging that the Speaker had ignored their letters.
