Hinting at BRI, PM Oli says Nepal not in a position to take loans

Kathmandu, November 22 — Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stated that Nepal is currently not in a position to take loans from anyone.

Addressing a public rally at Durbar Marg on Friday, Prime Minister Oli informed that he is scheduled to visit neighboring China on December 2.

Referring to his upcoming visit to China, Oli said, "Visits to other countries are for the benefit and welfare of the nation. Similarly, we have conducted our visits in a way that ensures success."

Hinting at the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), Oli said that Nepal does not currently need to borrow from anyone.

He said, "As far as possible, we avoid taking loans. Right now, neither the mindset nor the situation is there for borrowing. However, we must focus on increasing production and advancing through our own efforts."
