Design issues delay Gwarko flyover (photos)
Kathmandu, November 21 – The deadline for completing the flyover under construction in Gwarko, Lalitpur, is set to expire on December 23. According to the initial agreement, the construction was to be completed by February 24, 2022. However, doubts persist as to whether the project will be finished on time.
The contract for the flyover construction was awarded to Ashish-Samanantar-Railiger JV starting February 24, 2022. With just five weeks remaining until the revised deadline, the overall physical progress stands at 80%.
The project faced delays when the company halted work for a "design revision" due to issues with the initial design during the first 13 months of construction. Although the contract stipulated completion within two years, the deadline was extended by ten months to December 2023.
The 490-meter-long flyover includes a 280-meter-long ramp on the Balkumari side and a 135-meter-long ramp on the Satdobato side. The height of the structure meets international standards, with a clearance of 6 meters, as stated by the construction company.
According to the company, 98% of the bridge construction work has been completed, leaving tasks such as railing installation, pavement, and painting to be finished.
