CPN (US) to collaborate with ideologically aligned parties in local by-elections

Kathmandu, November 13 — The Nepal Communist Party (Unified Socialist) has announced that it will collaborate with ideologically aligned parties for the upcoming local by-elections on December 1, based on the needs of the local level.

The party, which prioritizes unity and cooperation among like-minded individuals, groups, and parties, has adopted a policy of seeking support from other parties in areas where it has a strong organizational presence, while offering support to alliance candidates in areas where its organizational influence is weaker.

Secretary Som Prasad Pandey informed that the party has instructed its provincial committees to prioritize local development and economic transformation issues while selecting candidates for the by-election.

The party is in the final stages of discussions for potential collaboration and alliances with other parties, including the Nepal Communist Party (Maoist Centre). Based on these discussions, decisions will be made regarding which candidates will be selected for specific constituencies.

With a membership of approximately 150,000, the party has directed its committees to recommend candidates who have contributed to strengthening the organization. The party has also confirmed that it will not form alliances with the ruling parties. The Election Commission has set November 19 as the deadline for the submission of nomination papers.

The by-elections, scheduled for December 1, will fill 44 vacant positions, including two District Coordination Committee heads, two rural municipality chairs, four rural municipality vice chairs, one mayor, one deputy mayor, and 34 ward chairs.
