NC Kirtipur recommends 11 candidates for by-election
Kathmandu, November 5 — The Nepali Congress Kirtipur Municipal Committee has recommended the names of 11 aspirant candidates for the upcoming by-election scheduled for December 1. The committee's chairperson, Krishna Man Dangol, informed that the list of candidates had been submitted a week ago. The recommendations have now reached the regional committee through the provincial election constituency.
He stated, "Once the names are sent by the regional committee, they will reach the Bagmati Provincial Committee, where the final ticket will be decided."
According to Chairperson Dangol, efforts were made to agree on one candidate, but it was not successful. As a result, the names of all the aspirants were submitted.
The committee has recommended Krishna Man Dangol as the first choice, followed by Badri Lal Maharjan in second, Himal Karki in third, and Jamuna Nakarmi in fourth. Jamuna Nakarmi is the wife of the late Kirtipur Mayor Rajkumar Nakarmi, who passed away recently.
Other recommended names include: Sangita Bogati, Sashir Maharjan, Ramman Singh, Jankalal Maharjan, Min Prakash Maharjan, Kiran KC, and Sachindra Maharjan.
Chairperson Dangol emphasized that all the aspirants have agreed to support whichever candidate receives the ticket.
The by-election became necessary following the untimely death of Mayor Rajkumar Nakarmi on the night of July 25. Nakarmi had been suffering from renal disease for a long time. In the last local election, he won with 9,043 votes. The runner-up, Kesh Ratna Bajracharya of the CPN-UML, received 5,507 votes, while the third-place candidate, Shiva Sharan Maherjan of the CPN (Maoist Centre), garnered 4,090 votes.
