President Paudel extends greetings for Nepal Sambat 1145
Kathmandu, November 2 — President Ramchandra Paudel has extended heartfelt wishes for happiness, peace, and prosperity to all Nepali brothers and sisters, both at home and abroad, on the auspicious occasion of the commencement of 'Nepal Sambat 1145.'
In a goodwill message released today, Paudel expressed his belief that the Nepal Sambat will enhance mutual goodwill, tolerance, and brotherhood among all Nepalis, thereby strengthening national unity.
Recalling the philanthropic contributions of the national luminary Shankhadhar Sakhwa, he emphasized that this day should inspire everyone to selflessly work towards societal advancement and progress. "During the time of Lichhavi King Raghavdev, the Shankhadhar Sakhwa is believed to have introduced this Sambat by relieving farmers and the poor of debts," the message stated. It further highlighted that Nepali society is civilized and tolerant, with our festivals and traditions contributing to this strength.
The Nepal Sambat, promoted by the national luminary Sakhwa, is our unique national calendar based on the lunar month. The first day of this Sambat begins on the first day of the waxing moon in Kartik. This day is celebrated as the New Year of Nepal Sambat in areas with a significant Newar community, such as Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Banepa, Dhulikhel, Bhaktapur, and Dolakha.
