CPN (Maoist Centre) to hold rally in Kathmandu today

Kathmandu, October 26 — The CPN (Maoist Centre) is organizing a rally today in the federal capital, Kathmandu. The party claims that the rally, which will be held at Bhrikutimandap, will be peaceful. The Maoists are holding this gathering in response to their conclusion that the KP Sharma Oli government has been completely unsuccessful after its first hundred days.

Jointly organized by the Bagmati Province, Valley Special Committee, and the Coordination Committee, the preparations for the demonstration, have been completed, according to Jagat Simkhada, the chair of the Valley Special Committee.

Party leaders and activists have been directed to gather at Kathmandu Mall at 11 AM today. From there, a procession led by Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' and other officials will proceed with musical instruments and banners. The rally will pass through Bhadrakali and Shahid Gate before converging at Kathmandu Mall. Once gathered, the assembly will move to Bhrikutimandap via Ratnapark, Bagbazar, and Exhibition Road, Simkhada informed. According to him, the chairman and other officials will feature prominently on the banners, and all preparations for flags and vehicles are complete.

“Nearly all preparations for the public demonstration are finished. Bringing many processions from outside could inconvenience the public and cause traffic jams, so this time we are planning to protest in a different way. We will gather at the mall and proceed with music and displays. We aim to address the people's issues in a different and constructive manner,” he stated while providing details about the preparations.

The procession will transform into a protest assembly at Bhrikutimandap at 12:30 PM, and the program is expected to last about two hours. Leaders and activists will participate only from within the valley, with fewer participants expected from outside the valley, Simkhada mentioned.

It is estimated that around 25,000 to 30,000 people will participate in the rally. The Maoists were ousted from power after the Congress and UML formed a government in July. They are preparing to intensify their movement across the country, claiming that the Oli-led coalition government is regressive.
