Writ concerning land donation to UML presented before Justice Subedi's bench
Kathmandu, October 24 — A hearing has been scheduled for the writ against the land donation made by the controversial businessman Meen Bahadur Gurung for the construction of the central office building of the CPN (UML). The case will be presided over by Justice Nahakul Subedi.
The initial hearing for the writ, filed by Advocate Gyan Bahadur Basnet, is set for Thursday. This writ had previously been dismissed but was re-registered on Tuesday following an order from the bench to accept it.
Gurung, who is facing various corruption charges in ongoing court cases, announced the donation of 10 ropani 14 aana of land located in Maitrinagar, Kirtipur Municipality-2, Kathmandu, on October 11. On the same day, Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli and Gurung jointly laid the foundation stone for the UML headquarters building.
Gyan Kumar Basnet filed the writ at the Supreme Court on Wednesday, arguing that accepting such a significant donation from a controversial businessman while in an executive position constitutes corruption.
Previously, the registrar of the Supreme Court, Bhadrakali Pokharel, had dismissed the writ, but Justice Til Prasad Shrestha's bench ordered its re-registration.
The Supreme Court's ruling today will determine the future of the donated land.
