Prabhakar and Biplav discuss advancing Communist movement
Kathmandu, October 15 — Before the Central Committee meeting of the CPN (Maoist Centre), there was a private discussion between Deputy General Secretary Janardan Sharma "Prabhakar" and Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) General Secretary Netra Bikram Chand "Biplav." The two leaders had a one-hour conversation on Tuesday at Biplav's party central office in Shivagadhi, Kapilbastu.
Sharma visited Shivagadhi to meet Biplav while he was in Kapilbastu for work-related matters. During the discussion, Biplav mentioned to Ratopati that they talked positively about party unity and advancing the overall communist movement in a new direction. However, he argued that it should not be assumed that unity will happen immediately without institutional decisions from the Maoists.
“Prabhakarji came here for work. We decided to meet, and we met. The conversation went well. First, we reviewed the complex political situation in the country. We discussed what he understood and what we understood. Secondly, we talked about how to unify the communist movement. Thirdly, we discussed unity and alliances within the Maoists. There was a consensus to move forward positively regarding party unity. An internal meeting is about to take place. Everyone should make positive efforts in that. We discussed how to unify and advance the alliance. The discussions were fruitful,” Biplav said about the talks.
He expressed his wishes for the ideological struggles within the Maoists to progress positively, noting that it is their internal matter.
“There has been recent ideological and theoretical debate within the Maoists. That is their internal issue. I have wished for the debate to progress positively. This was also discussed during my conversation with Chairman Prachanda. Whatever discussions we had were positive. Every party has ideological and theoretical debates. This should be resolved positively,” he said. “Even today, there was a discussion on this matter. He is also serious. The ongoing discussions are not based on personal interests but are meant to advance the entire Maoist movement. The issues raised by Prabhakar are also related to the movement. Advancing all these discussions positively will support unity and alliances. We also talked about advancing the entire communist movement in Nepal in a new and open manner.”
Regarding party unity and advancing the Maoist movement, Sharma has also shown seriousness. “There are various options, and discussions on those options have taken place. How do we move forward together? How do we build a foundation for unity? How do we advance the Maoist movement?” he noted. “My conversation with Prabhakar was indeed positive. Being comrades and classmates, it is natural to have intimate discussions. However, for unity, the Maoists must first make institutional decisions. The Maoists still have not made any decisions. It is not correct to assume that it will happen exactly tomorrow or the day after. There may be discussions with the Maoist leadership soon.”
The Maoists are preparing to convene a Central Committee meeting in the fourth week of October. Prior to this meeting, advisory committee meetings have been held in all provinces. Based on the consultations held in all provinces, Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” is drafting a political document. The Central Committee meeting is expected to make formal decisions regarding unity with Biplav's party and other Maoist factions, according to Maoist leaders.
