Mud and dust plague Bagmati Corridor
Lalitpur, October 2 — Due to the continuous rain since Friday, the Bagmati River has flooded, leaving the Bagmati Corridor muddy and difficult to navigate. The flood, which entered residential areas on Saturday morning, has caused significant damage. As of now, mud remains in areas such as Dhobighat, Balkhupul, Kalopul in Sanepa, and UN Park.
While vehicles are operating, passengers report that the mud and dust have made travel on the Bagmati Corridor uncomfortable. Although the volume of traffic has decreased due to the muddy conditions, it has affected the main road, leading to increased traffic jams compared to before.
Motorcyclist Pawan Bohora shared that the alternative routes through the Bagmati Corridor have become challenging due to mud. He stated, "There is mud everywhere, and water has accumulated in the potholes under the bridge, causing traffic jams."
Nirmal Tandukar, the ward chair of Lalitpur Metropolitan City-1, emphasized that the Integrated Development of the Bagmati Civilization must manage the Bagmati Corridor. He said, “The Bagmati Corridor has been inundated by the flood. Significant damage has occurred at the temple, pati, and Aryaghat. The committee responsible for managing this must be proactive.”
Another motorcyclist, Binod Thapa, also mentioned that the travel experience on the Bagmati Corridor has been uncomfortable due to the mud and dust. He remarked, “It wouldn’t be a big issue if the responsible authorities acted quickly in managing the situation, but the lack of action has left the corridor muddy until now.”
Currently, residents near the Bagmati Corridor are busy managing items damaged by the flood. Locals are working to remove the mud that has entered their homes and dry wet clothes. They are requesting that the responsible government authorities arrange for water to help clean the mud.
