Landslides disrupt Prithvi Highway in Dhading and East-West Highway in Daunne
Kathmandu, September 30 — A landslide has occurred again in Malekhu, Dhading. Continuous rainfall has led to the obstruction of the section of the Prithvi Highway that passes through Dhading and Chitwan.
As the landslides continue, additional police personnel have been deployed on the Malekhu-Muglin section of the Prithvi Highway. DIG Krishna Hari Sharma of Bagmati Province informed Ratopati that 75 extra personnel have been sent to assist in this area.
He stated, “Police have been deployed in the region under the leadership of the SP of Traffic.” SP Naresh Subedi from the Bagmati Province Traffic Police Office has been assigned the responsibility of managing traffic in the Muglin-Nagdhunga area.
Considering the increased risk at night, the police have urged not to travel during nighttime. DIG Pokharel mentioned, “We have advised against traveling at night due to the increased risks.”
For small vehicles trying to enter Kathmandu via Nagdhunga, the police have directed them to take the route from Galchi through Nuwakot to Kathmandu. They have also requested not to park vehicles on steep areas.
East-West highway obstructed at Daunne
Meanwhile, landslide at Daunne of West Nawalparasi on the East-West Highway has completely obstructed the highway. After the road collapsed in the Khursani Khola area of Bardaghat Municipality-4, the police have advised vehicles heading from Butwal to Kathmandu to take the route through Pokhara.
Ishwari Aryal, the acting chief of the Highway Traffic Management Office in Butwal, informed Ratopati that about one and a half feet of road has collapsed in Daunne, causing traffic to be halted.
He mentioned that since there is no immediate possibility of reopening, travelers are being advised to go through Palpa and Pokhara. He also noted that the upper part of the road has also cracked, and coordination is underway with the road division office in Chitwan and Butwal for repairs.
Due to the road blockage, vehicles coming from Narayangadh have been halted at Dumkibas, while those traveling towards Narayangadh have been stopped at Bardaghat.
