PM Oli: I didn't go to the UN just to milk a cow!
Kathmandu, September 30 — Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli stated that he did not go to the United Nations simply to bring back milk like a cow herder. This response came when a journalist asked what benefits Nepal gained from its participation in the UN during a press interaction at Tribhuvan International Airport.
“I did not go there merely to milk a cow,” stated Prime Minister Oli. “My purpose was to articulate our thoughts and challenges, and they were conveyed appropriately.” He underscored that these issues are not unique to Nepal; they represent global challenges that demand collective attention.
“Since these are global problems, they require collective action. Underdeveloped countries suffer the most damage, and although they may not have the resources to mitigate it, they bear the brunt of these impacts. The international community must pay attention to this,” he added while discussing the UN General Assembly and side meetings. “Those who have caused more damage should also contribute more to reparations and investments.”
During a press conference, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs provided details about the Prime Minister's visit, noting that Nepal’s participation and presence at the UN General Assembly was commendable. Prime Minister Oli addressed the assembly on Sewptember 26 at the UN headquarters.
During this engagement, the Prime Minister highlighted Nepal’s complete democracy, human rights, social security, as well as the progress made in peace processes, climate change, and the impacts and challenges faced by Himalayan nations.
Throughout his 10-day visit to the U.S., the Prime Minister also held meetings with the U.S. President and other heads of state, drawing attention to issues of concern for Nepal. The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amrit Rai, briefed regarding the Prime Minister's visit.
