Over 750 rescued in Kathmandu Valley: Home Minister

Kathmandu, September 28 — Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak stated that the government is seriously engaged in rescuing citizens affected by natural disasters such as floods and landslides due to continuous rainfall.

On Saturday morning, after a meeting of the “Monsoon Preparedness and Response Command Post” at the Home Ministry in Singhadurbar, Minister Lekhak informed journalists that rescue teams from the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force have successfully rescued over 750 citizens in the Kathmandu Valley alone due to rain, floods, landslides, and inundation.

“Two individuals were also rescued by a helicopter of the Nepal Army and relocated to a safe place,” Minister Lekhak said, “A significant disaster situation has arisen in the country.”

He mentioned that the meeting discussed gathering information on the damage to life and property caused by floods, landslides, and inundation across the country, and how to make rescue and relief efforts more effective.

“A considerable loss of life and property has occurred; I express my condolences to those who lost their lives,” he stated, adding that the government is actively moving forward on rescue and relief efforts.

He also directed relevant authorities to immediately address the blocked roads due to the rain and work to clear them.

Once conditions stabilize, the government will initiate efforts for the resettlement of displaced individuals, Minister Lekhak noted. He stated that the “Monsoon Preparedness and Response Command Post” will remain active 24/7.
