Former SL president Rajapaksa visits Lumbini
Lumbini, September 27 — The Lumbini Development Trust welcomed former Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. The Trust's Vice Chairman, Dr. Lharkyal Lama (Khenpo Chimé), greeted Rajapaksa with a ceremonial scarf.
Dr. Lama highlighted the long-standing relationship between Nepal and Sri Lanka, noting that the birthplace of Buddha, Lumbini, has further strengthened this bond.
He also requested regular flights from Sri Lanka to Gautam Buddha International Airport, targeting Lumbini. Accompanying Rajapaksa was Sudarshana Pathirana, Sri Lanka's ambassador to Nepal.
Following the welcome ceremony, Rajapaksa visited the Maya Devi Temple. Dr. Haridhwaj Rai, Head of Information and Public Relations, mentioned that Sri Lankans visit Lumbini with great reverence, and the former president’s visit to the temple held significant importance. Rajapaksa, along with his family, lit a lamp in a gesture of peace at Lumbini.
Dr. Rai also provided insights into the significance of Lumbini and the Maya Devi Temple.
