Constitutional Council meeting called off at the eleventh hour

Kathmandu, September 11 — The meeting of the Constitutional Council has been postponed. National Assembly Chairman Narayan Dahal announced that the meeting scheduled for 5 PM on Wednesday has been delayed.

The postponement is attributed to the escalating conflict between the ruling party and the opposition over the removal of Deputy Speaker Indira Rana.

The ruling party is questioning Deputy Speaker Rana and seeking her removal, while the opposition party is strongly opposing this move. This issue led to intense debate in the House of Representatives on Tuesday and Wednesday.

As a result, the meeting convened by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at Singha Darbar, which was intended to recommend the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, has been postponed at the last moment.

The Constitutional Council, as per constitutional provisions, includes the Chief Justice, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Chair of the National Assembly, the Leader of the Opposition in the House of Representatives, and the Deputy Speaker.
