Speaker Ghimire’s controversial ruling: 'Violence' label on People's War remains
Kathmandu, September 11 — Speaker Devraj Ghimire has announced that the term 'violence,' used to describe the Maoist People's War during parliamentary proceedings, will remain in the official records.
During Wednesday's meeting, Speaker Ghimire ruled that the term "violence," as used by MP Yogesh Bhattarai in his speech, should remain in the official record.
Chief Whip of Maoist Center Hitaraj Pandey objected to this ruling, stating, "We have consistently argued that the issue of the people's war has been misrepresented by the government. The constitution, which came into effect as a result of the people's war, includes specific explanations and comments about People’s War."
Pandey added, "The current ruling contradicts the constitution and the law. It is unacceptable. The constitution must be upheld, and the explanation provided by the parliament secretariat does not align with constitutional standards and is therefore unacceptable to us."
