Former Chief Minister Karki arrested at protest site

Biratnagar, September 10 — Police have arrested Kedar Karki, the former Chief Minister of Koshi Province, from his hunger strike site for violating a prohibited area order. 

The District Administration Office of Morang had declared the area in front of the Koshi Province Assembly gate a restricted zone starting at 3 p.m. on Tuesday. Karki began his hunger strike at 4 p.m. that day, demanding nine different actions from the state government.

Supporters from the Nepali Congress were present in large numbers during the protest. The police intervened and arrested Karki amid clashes between security personnel and his supporters. The altercations included stone-throwing by Karki’s supporters and baton charges by the police, resulting in injuries to both hunger strikers and security officers.

Several arrests were made during the confrontation.

The police stated that Kedar Karki, now in custody, will be released at his residence in Budhiganga, Morang.
