Struggle Committee demands impeachment of SC judges

Kathmandu, September 9 – The Valley Road Struggle Committee has called for the impeachment of the Supreme Court judges who ruled that a 20-meter buffer should be maintained along the banks of the rivers flowing through Kathmandu Valley.

The committee submitted a formal request to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Monday.

Suman Sayami, the coordinator of the Struggle Committee, criticized the Supreme Court's decision, stating that the 20-meter buffer contradicts the constitution and cannot be implemented.

Sayami has demanded the impeachment of the judges responsible for this ruling. Judges Anand Mohan Bhattarai and Binod Sharma gave the order to maintain the 20-meter buffer.

Prime Minister Oli remarked that while some may support the Supreme Court's decision, it could significantly impact areas where people live and where development is planned. He expressed concern that enforcing the 20-meter buffer might affect a substantial portion of Kathmandu.

The Prime Minister also emphasized the need to address such issues constructively while taking into account cultural values.
