Gokarneshwor residents denounce Supreme Court's river buffer decision (Photos)
Kathmandu, September 8 — Following the Supreme Court's decision to extend the river buffer zone in the Kathmandu Valley by an additional 20 meters, local residents have staged protests in several areas.
The Supreme Court's order led the Kathmandu Metropolitan City to impose a ban on constructing any structures within the new 20-meter zone.
Today, residents of Gokarneshwar Municipality protested in Jorpati, arguing that the Supreme Court's decision was unjust.
Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor, Balendra Shah alias Balen, attributed the issue to the federal government's inconsistent policies, stating that structures built according to the new standards will not be demolished.
