I’m not a contender for Prime Minister: Foreign Minister Rana
Dhangadhi, August 29 — Nepali Congress leader and Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba has stated that she is not seeking the position of Prime Minister.
She made this statement during a press conference at her residence in Dhangadhi on Thursday.
Dr. Deuba remarked, "Regardless of what is said about me outside, I am aware of my position within the party." She noted that the Prime Minister may have considered appointing a woman from his own party to the role.
She acknowledged that many leaders within the Nepali Congress are qualified for the position of Prime Minister but emphasized that she is not among those being considered.
Additionally, Foreign Minister Deuba expressed that it is not unusual for the two major parties to form a coalition government. She explained, "When the country faced challenges, two large parties formed the government together. The current government was established to address the need for stability and development when previous governments were unstable. We are united to ensure a stable government."
Minister Deuba also stated that one of the goals of the current government is to amend the constitution, though she assured that the fundamental principles of the constitution will remain unchanged. She mentioned that the coalition government of the two major parties is expected to continue until the next election.
