CPN (US) officials election: Initial candidate list released
Kathmandu, August 27—Elections are taking place today to select members of the Politburo, including 18 officials of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Socialist). Positions being elected include the senior vice chairman, vice chairmen, deputy general secretaries, secretaries, treasurer, and 84 other Politburo members.
The party's central committee consists of 344 members. The initial list of candidates has been published following the registration of nominations on Tuesday morning.
Voting is scheduled for today from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., after which claims will be reviewed, nominations may be withdrawn, and the final list of candidates will be published. According to the schedule released by Election Commission Chairman Madhav Paudel, vote counting will continue into the evening.
Only members of the Central Committee are permitted to participate in the election process. Additional structures, such as the secretariat members, standing committee members, and other departmental roles, will be given in the coming days.
Currently, three office bearers have been elected to the Central Committee: the Chairman, the Honorable Leader, and the General Secretary.
