Deuba invites General Secretary duo for a discussion
Kathmandu, August 26 — Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has invited General Secretary duo Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma for a discussion. President Deuba has scheduled this meeting at his residence in Budanilkantha for Tuesday morning.
According to a leader close to Deuba, Vice Presidents duo Purna Bahadur Khadka and Dhanraj Gurung will also join the discussion with General Secretaries at 11 a.m. The purpose of the meeting is to reach an agreement on the report presented by General Secretaries at the Central Committee meeting.
The discussion will include the issues related to Sharma’s exit policy and Thapa’s pre-election alliances. The President aims to amend these proposals, according to the leader.
After consulting with the General Secretaries, Deuba plans to convene a meeting with the officials. The final decision on this is expected to be made after these discussions.
The Congress has scheduled a Central Committee meeting for August 28. Leaders from both the party establishment and rival factions have expressed dissatisfaction with the proposals put forward by General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma. Sharma's proposals include setting term limits for the positions of party President, as well as for individuals serving as Prime Minister, Minister, and MP. Additionally, General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has opposed the idea of forming pre-election coalitions with other parties.
The Central Committee meeting, initially set for August 7, was postponed to August 12 and then to August 23 due to disagreements. The meeting was further adjourned to August 28 after no consensus was reached on August 23. President Deuba is making efforts to achieve a consensus before the meeting.
The Congress is now focusing on passing the proposal from the recent Mahasamiti meeting held at Godawari in Lalitpur. However, disputes have prevented the approval of the reports submitted to the Mahasamiti.
Vice President Khadka presented the policy proposal, General Secretary Thapa presented the organizational proposal, and General Secretary Sharma presented the contemporary political report. These reports remain unapproved due to ongoing disputes over the exit policy and pre-election alliances, which continue to be contentious in the Central Committee as well.
