RTGS transactions hit historic high with NPR 64.51 trillion

Kathmandu, August 22 - The Real Time Gross Settlement System (RTGS) has marked a historic peak in digital transactions. According to Nepal Rastra Bank, in June-July alone, the RTGS system facilitated transactions worth NPR 64.51 trillion.

This amount represents a 116 percent increase compared to the same month in the previous year. In June-July 2023, the RTGS system processed transactions totaling NPR 29.83 trillion.

Nepal Rastra Bank reports that during the review period, mobile banking users conducted transactions amounting to NPR 373.98 billion through 24.6 million users. In the previous year, mobile payments totaled NPR 2.33 trillion across 23 million users.

Additionally, the bank noted that internet banking transactions reached NPR 17.74 billion, while various wallet services processed transactions totaling NPR 31.03 billion.

Furthermore, payment transactions through ATMs (debit cards) and credit cards amounted to NPR 97.03 trillion during the review period, according to Nepal Rastra Bank.
