Water levels exceed alert at Bagmati river station in Kathmandu
Kathmandu, August 21 - Due to continuous rain, the water level at the Gaurighat water measuring station on the Bagmati River in Kathmandu has exceeded the alert level.
As the water level continues to rise, the Flood Forecasting Division has advised people to exercise extreme caution when traveling through coastal areas and the Bagmati Corridor.
According to this morning's measurements, the flow of the Koshi, Narayani, Karnali, Kankai, Kamala, Bagmati, East Rapti, West Rapti, Babai, and their tributaries is below the alert level but increasing. The water level in the Mahakali River near Parigaon is approaching the alert level.
The Flood Forecasting Division has also warned that Bara, Parsa, Sindhuli, Makwanpur, Chitawan, Ramechhap, Dolakha, Sindhupalchok, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Kavrepalanchok, Kaski, Parbat, Baglung, Myagdi, Bardiya, Doti, Dadeldhura, Kailali, Kanchanpur, and nearby areas are expected to experience flooding today.
Many small rivers are predicted to see a significant increase in flow, with some facing a moderate risk of sudden surges.
Additionally, an increase in flow is anticipated for small rivers in Sankhuwasabha, Bhojpur, Solukhumbu, Okhaldhunga, Khotang, Sarlahi, Rautahat, Gorkha, Lamjung, Rukum West, Jajarkot, Darchula, and surrounding districts.
