Citizens should have easy access to public information: PM Oli
Kathmandu, August 19 - Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli asserted that it was crucial for citizens to have an easy access to public information and State affairs so that democracy would be institutionally developed and good-governance promoted.
Extending best wishes on the 18th anniversary of the National Information Commission today, PM Oli expressed confidence that the flow of right information would boost citizens' participation in governance system and give legitimacy to the system.
The Head of the Government extended best wishes to the Chief Information Commissioner, Commissioners and all the employees at the Commission and highlighted that provision in the constitution of Nepal had established the rights of Nepali citizens to seek and receive information on any matter of public interest or personal concern from the public offices.
"It is imperative that the public agencies should be responsible, accountable and transparent in a democratic system. Accountability, responsibility and transparent activities contribute towards maintaining good-governance in the country," PM Oli mentioned in the congratulatory message.
He viewed that the effective implementation of RTI would play a significant part in government's goal of making Nepal a well-governed country.
PM Oli urged the government as well as all public agencies to be more responsible to enforce RTI. Oli reaffirmed government's commitment towards effective implementation of RTI.
The PM also wished the anniversary day encouraged the National Information Commission to further enhance its accountability and effectiveness to enforce citizen's RTI.
