Kathmandu District Court denies bail for Bechan Jha, orders custody

Kathmandu, August 18: The Kathmandu District Court has sentenced Bechan Jha to prison in the fake Bhutanese refugee case. Judge Tirtharaj KC denied Jha’s bail application and ordered him to remain in custody on Sunday.

Jha’s legal team, consisting of senior advocates Krishna Prasad Sapkota, Mahadev Yadav, Purushottam Aryal, and Maniram Upadhyay, concluded their arguments on Friday. Despite their efforts, the court decided to proceed with the case on Sunday after additional arguments were presented by the public prosecutors.

Alongside his involvement in the refugee case, Bechan Jha faces charges of fraud, forgery, treason, and organized crime.
