Dalit Campaign demands fair political representation
Kathmandu, August 17 - The ‘Dalits for Dalits Campaign Nepal’ continues its protest at Maitighar Mandala on Saturday. Demonstrators, who have been sleeping on the streets, allege that Dalits are marginalized in government positions and political appointments.
Coordinated by Khagendra Sunar and other youth activists from ‘Dalits for Dalits Campaign Nepal’, the protest has been ongoing for two weeks. Sunar criticized the proposed constitutional amendments, stating, "Amending the constitution is acceptable, but it’s unacceptable to restrict people’s rights. Do Congress and UML have the courage to undermine Dalit rights?"
Sunar accused UML and Congress of denying Dalit rights and claimed that new parties have also failed to address Dalit issues. The campaign demands political representation for Dalits in line with constitutional provisions and social justice principles, while accusing UML and Congress of caste discrimination.
