NEPSE index surges to 2,907 points, highest since COVID-19

Kathmandu, August 12: The NEPSE index has surged to 2,900 points for the first time in a long while. As of 1:30 pm on Monday, the index had risen by 46.36 points, reaching 2,907.21 points, marking its highest level since the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the global COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Nepal experienced significant disruptions, including a 120-day lockdown. Despite the downturn in most business sectors, the stock market saw notable activity.

At its peak in 2020, the NEPSE index reached nearly 3,200 points but subsequently fell to around 1,800 points. It has now begun a recovery, with Monday’s trading indicating a positive trend as the index approaches 2,900 points.

On the previous trading day, NEPSE saw a 94-point increase, with shares valued at NPR 25.339 billion traded. Today, within just two hours, over NPR 17.065 billion in shares have been traded.
