China to establish fertilizer factory in Nepal: Ambassador Song
Kathmandu, August 10: The Chinese government is set to assist in establishing a fertilizer factory in Nepal, with the aim of completing the project within the next year. Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Chen Song, announced that the factory’s construction will commence once the investment board approves the proposal.
In a recent discussion with mainstream media editors, Ambassador Song highlighted that the project will leverage Nepal's abundant electricity and water resources. He emphasized that strengthening the relationship with Nepal and supporting its socio-economic development are top priorities for China.
The ambassador also informed that a team of Chinese technicians is currently in Nepal assessing the feasibility of constructing the Nepal-China international transmission line. This initiative is expected to help reduce Nepal’s reliance on imported petroleum products and contribute to the country’s foreign exchange reserves. Song expressed confidence that developing hydropower will support Nepal’s national aspiration of becoming a 'Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali.'
China is committed to aiding Nepal's efforts to upgrade from its current status as an underdeveloped country. Ambassador Song shared that the recent third meeting of the Chinese Communist Party has opened its labor market to international workers, including those from Nepal.
The ambassador revealed that over 300 legal reforms were announced at the meeting chaired by President Xi Jinping. China plans to increase bilateral aid to Nepal, focusing on tourism promotion and hydropower development. He noted that Nepal’s electricity could potentially be utilized in the Chinese market.
Ambassador Song believes the announced reforms will deepen the partnership between China and Nepal, allowing Nepal to benefit from China’s development achievements. He expressed optimism that Nepal’s political leaders and workers will drive the country’s development forward in the coming years, fulfilling the aspirations of the Nepali people.
He also underscored the need for enhanced tourism infrastructure in Nepal, a key destination for Chinese tourists. China is prepared to provide technology transfer and other assistance to support this sector.
Regarding the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the ambassador clarified that while the implementation document with Nepal has not yet been signed due to some pending technical work, it will be finalized soon. He emphasized that BRI is a crucial platform for global collaboration, infrastructure investment, and sustainable development.
Under the 'Trans Himalayan Multi-Dimensional Connectivity Network,' the BRI’s focus on cross-border railways, roads, ports, air transport, and information technology will benefit not just Nepal, but all participating nations.
Ambassador Song reiterated China’s commitment to strengthening its comprehensive cooperative partnership with Nepal, aiming for lasting and beneficial relations between the two countries.
