Freedom fighters should be honored by the state: President Paudel
Kathmandu, Aug 5: President Ramchandra Paudel has said that the state should recognize and respect the freedom fighters who fought for establishment and restoration of democracy in the country.
In a meeting with the democratic fighters today at Rashtrapati Bhavan Sheetal Niwas, he appreciated the contribution of the freedom fighters in the past and expressed the belief that there will be no shortage of recognition, benefits and support given to them by the government and related agencies. "Your struggle, sacrifice and contribution to the establishment and restoration of democracy in Nepal is important, however I feel that the state is not doing as much as it should have done for you", he said.
President Paudel said that due to struggle and sacrifice of martyrs and freedom fighters the country saw establishment of a federal democratic republican governance system. Hence, the sacrifices and struggles made by our freedom fights for democratic values, ideals and integrity will be meaningful only if political stability, good governance and the aspirations of the people are fulfilled.
On that occasion, President of the Nepal Freedom Fighters' Association, Balkrishna Dahal, drew President Paudel's attention to the recognition and the benefits that the state should provide for the democracy fighters.
