Flight disruptions at Rara Airport for three consecutive days
Mugu: Flights to and from Rara Airport in the Mugu district have been disrupted for three days due to adverse weather conditions. According to the Rara Civil Aviation Office, flights could not operate because of erratic weather.
Summit Air's flight from Nepalgunj last Friday had to return after reaching Narakot in the Jumla district, just 10 minutes away from Rara Airport, due to bad weather.
The weather remained unfavorable yesterday as well. Although there were some improvements on Sunday, Summit Air canceled its flight to Rara Airport, according to Basanta Malla, Summit Air's Nepalgunj station manager.
As a result, passengers traveling between Nepalgunj and Mugu have faced significant problems. Many complained about running out of money to pay hotel bills while waiting for their flights. Namrata Malla, a teacher, shared that teachers on annual leave were particularly affected by the flight disruptions. "The road conditions are poor, and air travel is uncertain. We have not been able to return to our duty stations," she lamented.
Currently, three airlines operate flights at Rara Airport. Among them, Tara Air has not flown to Mugu due to maintenance issues, and Sita Air has not conducted flights due to administrative work. Amidst this, Summit Air was the only airline conducting regular flights to and from Rara Airport.
Dhirendra Bham, Sita Air's Mugu station manager, assured that Sita Air would resume regular flights from the coming Monday, provided the weather conditions improve.
