Mukul petitions to the EC, terms action against him illegal

Kathmandu: Mukul Dhakal, who was said to have been 'expelled' from the post of General Secretary, Spokesperson and Central Member of the Rashtriya Swotantra Party (RSP), has submitted a petition to the Election Commission, claiming that the action against him was illegal.

He submitted an application to the commission on Sunday, claiming that the decision of the party central committee to remove him from office on 9th July was not legal.

It is mentioned in his application that he has not yet received the official letter releasing him of duty.

In his petition, he has stated that the action against him is illegal according to sub-section 2 of Section 18 of the Act on Political Parties, the provisions of the Constitution of the RSP and Article 269 (4) of the Constitution of Nepal.

The party decided that if Dhakal is not satisfied with the action, he can file a review petition within 35 days. Dhakal has claimed in the petition that he is still in office because the action against him was not lawful.

Dhakal has referred to sub-section 2 of Section 18 of the Act on Political Parties which mentions that all party members will be given a chance of clarification before any disciplinary action is conducted against them.
