Hearing on Phanindra Devkota's writ today

Kathmandu:  A hearing has been scheduled in the bench of Judge Prakashman Singh Raut, filed by MP Fanindra Devkota, who was relieved of his post from the Gandaki province assembly. He demanded the annulment of the decision against him. On Sunday, Judge Raut's bench has been scheduled for the fourth appearance.

Devkota was prosecuted by the Maoist Center claiming to be their MP. Devkota, who was elected from Gorkha on the Maoist election symbol, has been calling himself an independent MP. Baburam Bhattarai, a party led by Nepal Samajwadi Party, said that he was an independent member of parliament and claimed that the action taken by the Maoists was illegal.

In the writ, he has made the Speaker of Gandaki Province Assembly, Maoist Center, and Hari Chuman, leader of the Maoist Center Gandaki Province Assembly parliamentary party and others as opponents. The Maoist Center took action against him after he gave a vote of confidence to Gandaki Chief Minister Surendra Pandey. The Maoist Center had issued a whip to its MPs asking them not to vote for Pandey.

The Maoists had recommended action against him for violating the said whip. After the recommendation of the Maoists, Speaker Krishna Prasad Dhital read out the action taken against him in the province assembly leading to his suspension.
