Parliamentary Hearing Committee calls for complaints against proposed Election Commissioner Pradhan

Kathmandu: Krishnaman Pradhan's proposed appointment as Election Commissioner is now being heard in parliament.

The Parliamentary Hearing Committee resolved to request objections regarding the proposed Chief Election Commissioner within ten days during its meeting on Friday, which was held at Singh Darbar.

The Constitutional Council meeting held on  June 16 had proposed Pradhan for the position Election Commissioner. The senior member of the committee, Pashupati Samsher Jung Bhahadur Rana, has advised that the committee secretariat has been directed to request that complaints be brought before the committee. The committee will look into the complaints that it has received.

"To inform the general public about the proposed person and, in the event that any information or complaint is received about the proposed person, I will give instructions to the committee secretary to have the information published through government and electronic media in accordance with Section 12 of the Procedure of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee 2080 in order to submit the information or complaint to the committee." Rana stated.

For over twenty years, Pradhan served as the Nepal Law Society's executive director. He holds a Master's degree in political science and has been involved in the civil society movement. According to a clause in the constitution, if the parliamentary hearing committee approves Pradhan's name as the recommended election commissioner, the president will appoint him. The Election Commissioner will hold office for a period of six years.
