Durga Prasain announces plans to establish a medical university

Kathmandu: Following the college's recent affiliation, Durga Prasain, head of the Jhapa-based B&C Medical College, announced plans to establish a university. Prasain announced at a news conference on Thursday that he intended to grant the medical college university status now that it has affiliation.

"A medical college has been successfully established in the Far East. We're going to turn this medical college into a university next. In order to generate employment prospects for at least 100,000 individuals, my objective is to establish a private institution," Prasain declared.

Seven years prior, Prasain had brought a challenge before the Supreme Court over the medical college's lack of affiliation. Recently, the Supreme Court made a decision that was favorable to him, ordering the government to grant affiliation to the college within 15 days. The Medical Education Commission met on Tuesday to make the final judgment.

The seven-year legal battle has resulted in the serving of justice. The Supreme Court's decision corrects the injustice I endured in the past," Prasain said. He also expressed gratitude to Kathmandu University for the affiliation after a ten-year delay.

"Justice has now been served although I petitioned the case seven years ago. I am appreciative of the Supreme Court's ruling. I would also want to congratulate Kathmandu University for resolving the affiliation delay," Prasai continued. "I appreciate the Prime Minister and the Medical Education Commission for their decision to authorize B&C to admit students."

Prasain made his comments in response to many court and administrative processes that resulted in the college gaining affiliation and his intentions for its eventual growth into a university.
