Foul play suspected in the death of a couple

Kathmandu: Foul play has been suspected in a tragic incident that happened in Jawalakhel, Lalitpur, on the evening of June 14th. On the ill-fated evening, a couple was found in a semi-conscious state in their rented room and later succumbed to their injuries during treatment at TU Teaching Hospital, Maharjgunj. Investigating officers claim that Umesh Century, 25, allegedly killed his wife and then committed suicide.

On the evening of the incident, Umesh, who used to stay in Kapan, visited his spouse's rented room behind Alka Hospital in Jawalakhel after returning from his hometown in Sindhupalchowk. His wife, 25-year-old Renu Century, lived there with her 10-year-old son, had gone outside that evening.

Neighbors informed the police that Umesh was seen loitering around Renu's rented room until she returned. After her arrival, the couple entered the room together. Later, when they were found unconscious and the room was locked from the inside, neighbors contacted the police.

Shekhar Khanal, Senior Superitendent of Lalitpur Police, revealed that a bottle of poison was found at the scene. Police believes that Umesh first killed his wife and then committed suicide by consuming poison. Both bodies have been taken to the Tribhuwan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajganj for autopsy.

Doctors who conducted autopsy have stated initially that Renu died due to pressure on her neck, leading police officials to suspect murder. The exact cause of death for both individuals will be ascertained once the post-mortem reports are out, according to police officials.
