Giribandhu Tea Estate not a govt property: Chhatra Giri

Chhatra Giri, owner of Giribandhu Tea Estate in Birtamod, Jhapa, said that Giribandhu Tea Estate is not a government property.

In a press conference at Birtamode on Wednesday,  Giri said that Giribandhu Tea Estate owned by him or his family is not the property of the government.

He claimed it to be the property acquired by his father and grandfather. He alleged that various rumors were spread about his private property.

Giri said that Giribandhu expanded tea cultivation before the implementation of the Land Act in 2021 BS. He said that since he got permission to keep 500 bigha of land under demarcation exemption, he now has 390 bigha of land in the name of Giribandhu.

He said they are trying to find a way out after the recent decision of the Supreme Court. Giri admitted that he started the land business in collaboration with different people because it is difficult to acquire a lot of land at once.

He said he was dealing with Deepak Malhotra, Bishnu Bahadur Rai and others regarding land acquisition.
