'Nepal Studies' question asked in English!

Kathmandu: Tribhuvan University students have complained about the question paper of  fourth-year graduate level Nepal Studies subject. The students took issue with the question paper being in English for the Nepal Studies (NPS 404) exam, which was conducted on Tuesday.

This is the first time that the exam was conducted for the subject according to the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Tribhuvan University.

The subject's whole curriculum is in Nepali language. In the same vein, students attended the lectures in Nepali. The students, however, took issue with the question papers' English language format.

Professor Dr. Kusum Shakya, dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, said that this happened because it was the first time.

"As Nepal studies is a comprehensive study of Nepal, it is natural that there will be questions on this topic in English. Students are raising the irrelevant issue." she said.

A student said that he studied the course in Nepali language, but the question paper was asked in English. "I read the Constitution of Nepal in Nepali language as the syllabus was in Nepali. All the lectures were conducted in Nepali language. However, in the exam, the question paper was asked in English. My complaint is on the behaviour of TU, not on the question. Students feel cheated" added the student
