CM Yadav secures fourth vote of confidence in Madhes Province
KATHMANDU: Saroj Kumar Yadav, the Chief Minister of Madhes Province, has successfully obtained a vote of confidence from the province assembly on Tuesday, marking the fourth instance of such affirmation during his tenure.
Chief Minister Yadav garnered a significant majority with 61 votes in his favor out of the 107-member province assembly.
The support came from members representing various political parties including Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP), CPN (UML), CPN (Maoist Centre), and CPN (Unified Socialist).
Consequently, this development has relegated the Nepali Congress, Janamat Party, and Loktantrik Samajwadi Party to the opposition bench in Madhes Province.
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Yadav tabled a motion seeking the vote of confidence amidst protests from Janamat Party's province assembly members.
Despite the opposition, Speaker Ramchandra Mandal permitted the Chief Minister to proceed with the proposal.
The obstruction of House proceedings by Janamat Party's members, who demand the formation of a parliamentary probe committee to investigate a clash that occurred at Madhes Agriculture University in Saptari three months ago, has been a point of contention.
The party has also been vocal about its demands for the resignation of Chief Minister Yadav.
In response to the shifting political landscape, Yadav took the vote of confidence after Nepali Congress province assembly lawmakers withdrew their support from his government.
Furthermore, Minister for Forest and Environment Ramesh Prasad Kurmi of Loktantrik Samajwadi Party tendered his resignation on Tuesday following his party's decision to withdraw support for Chief Minister Yadav's continuation.
As Chief Minister Yadav reaffirms his mandate through the vote of confidence, the political dynamics in Madhes Province undergo a notable transformation, setting the stage for the governance landscape ahead.
