Ruling alliance agrees to lead Sudurpaschim govt in turn

KATHMANDU: In a strategic move that hints at a dynamic shift in governance, the ruling alliance has orchestrated an agreement to hand over the reins of the Sudurpaschim provincial government to the Nagarik Unmukti Party for a duration of one year.

This decision, reached in a high-level meeting this morning among key figures of the ruling coalition, signifies a departure from conventional power dynamics, as parties take turns leading the provincial administration.

Among those present were notable political stalwarts including Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal, and Ranjita Shrestha, Chairperson of the Nagarik Unmukti Party.

Following this groundbreaking decision, all eyes are on the Nagarik Unmukti Party as they prepare to assert their authority by nominating their candidate for the coveted position of Chief Minister in Sudurpaschim province today.

Sources suggest that Kailash Chaudhary, representing the influential faction led by Ranjita Shrestha within the party, is poised to step into the role of Chief Minister, signaling a significant political milestone for the party and the region.

The Sudurpaschim Provincial Assembly, comprising 53 members, sets the stage for a delicate balance of power. With the current configuration boasting 51 MPs, the need to secure a majority of 26 votes looms large.

With 31 MPs in the coalition's arsenal - including 11 from the Maoist Center, 10 from CPN-UML, and 6 from the Nagarik Unmukti Party, along with 4 from the Unified Socialist Party - strategic alliances become paramount in navigating the political landscape.

Meanwhile, the assembly's composition is further enriched by 18 members from the Nepali Congress, along with representatives from Rastriya Prajatantra Party and an independent MP, adding layers to the intricate tapestry of Nepali politics.
