Maoist Center vies for Lumbini Province Chief Minister position

KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Center) has officially asserted its claim to the Chief Minister's post in Lumbini Province.

Parliamentary party leader Jog Bahadur Mahara has submitted a list with signatures of 44 supporting lawmakers to Province Chief Amik Sherchan on Friday.

The move follows the resignation of incumbent Chief Minister Dil Bahadur Chaudhary, who stepped down after failing to secure a vote of confidence from the political coalition.

As per Article 169 of the Constitution of Nepal, the Chief of Province is tasked with appointing the leader of the parliamentary party commanding a majority in the Provincial Assembly as the Chief Minister.

If no single party holds a clear majority, the Chief of Province may appoint a member of the Provincial Assembly who can command a majority with support from two or more parties.
