15 protesters arrested in Kathmandu
KATHMANDU: Police have detained 15 individuals who were protesting in front of the south gate of Singha Durbar today, demanding the protection of Nepalis serving in the Russian army.
Navraj Adhikari, spokesperson and Superintendent of Police, stated that the protesters were arrested for holding a demonstration in a prohibited area in front of the federal government secretariat complex.
Among those detained is Kritu Bhandari, a leader of the awareness campaign activists.
SP Adhikari confirmed, "Fifteen people, including ten men and five women, who demonstrated in front of Singha Durbar, have been detained."
According to the Kathmandu District Police Range, the detained individuals have been held at the Singha Durbar police circle.
The protesters were advocating for the repatriation of the bodies of Nepalis who lost their lives fighting in the Russia-Ukraine war on behalf of the Russian army. They also demanded efforts to locate those who have lost contact and rescue stranded Nepalis in the conflict zone.
