NC directs lawmakers to vote against Chief Minister Jamkattel
KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress Bagmati Province Committee has issued a directive to its parliamentary party, instructing them to vote against Bagmati Province Chief Minister Shalikram Jamkattel.
Under the chairmanship of Nepali Congress Bagmati Province President Indra Bahadur Baniya, the work execution committee convened a meeting on Sunday where all MPs of the party were instructed not to remain neutral but to cast their votes against the vote of confidence.
Chief Minister Jamkattel is scheduled to undergo a vote of confidence today in the Bagmati Province Assembly. If any party within the government coalition withdraws its support, the Chief Minister is obligated to face a confidence motion within 30 days as per the constitution.
Jamkattel must secure 56 votes to maintain a majority in the 110-member Province Assembly.
The Province Assembly comprises 37 members of the Nepali Congress, 27 of UML, 21 of the Maoist Centre, 13 of RPP, seven of CPN (Unified Socialist), three of the Nepal Workers and Peasant Party, and two of the Hamro Nepali Party.
